VOA: International observers criticize vote buying and pressure on voters and
election

The Assembly in Tirana was engulfed today by controversies over local elections and the economy. The opposition accused the socialist government of collaborating in the campaign with incriminated persons, who threatened voters and manipulated the results in favor of the Socialist Party. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the opposition suffered a deep defeat, because it was separated from the citizens, who abandoned it.

The socialists and the democrats today exchanged remarks on the local elections in the Assembly, 10 days after the deep victory of the left, although during the campaign there was no confrontation between their candidates for mayors. Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the deep victory of the Socialist Party, which he leads, showed that the citizens abandoned the opposition, which no longer has the right to speak on their behalf, until it received such a low result from them in the local elections.

"There has not been a more spectacular response from Albanians than the May 14 elections for all. For all. More than our victory, there is the defeat of politics, which is carried by all the people of the opposition who come here and sing their songs" , said Mr. Rama.

Prime Minister Rama built the entire campaign of the Socialist Party on the rejection of opposition candidates as representatives of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, declared non grata by the USA. But the general secretary of the Democracy Party and the new chairman of its parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, emphasized that the Socialist Party supported its entire campaign on the ally non grata Tom Doshi, who leads the PSD and is on the side of the socialists in the Assembly. In the local elections, PSD came fourth in the country.

"One foot of power in Durrës has been guaranteed to Vangjush Dako, branded non grata, about which Rama does not speak. Another leg of power in Shkodër has been guaranteed to Tom Doshi, another non grata that Rama does not talk about. "Rama comes here and instead of giving an account for the massacre he committed on May 14, he deals with the opposition in 35 out of 36 minutes of his speech ," said Mr. Bardhi.

During the discussions on the salary increase of the administration and legislators, today the socialists listed a series of figures on the improvement of the economy, exports, tourism, and employment. Prime Minister Rama said that the citizens voted for the candidates of the Socialist Party, confirming the good governance of this party.

A do të ketë ulje të informalitetit? Tatimet a do të mbledhin më shumë para?

In the preliminary monitoring report, they pointed out that the misuse of state resources for campaigning, as well as allegations of vote buying and pressure on voters and the administration, remained worrying. International observers pointed out that the authorities used state resources to campaign, so often, there was no clear distinction between state and campaign activities. They noted in several cases that the government's future support for municipalities was conditional on the election result. The ODIHR observation mission met local sources, who confirmed allegations of voter intimidation and vote buying./VOA
