The International Democratic Union has adopted another resolution on Albania at the organization's annual forum, which, among other things, raises concerns that our country could spiral toward a "narco-state" if it does not make immediate reforms.
Democratic MP Gazment Bardhi has shared with his followers on social media the points of this resolution, which he says were approved by member parties, from Trump's Republicans to the German CDU.
Bardhi's full message:
At the IDU annual forum in Washington DC, the Resolution on Albania was unanimously adopted by all political forces present at the IDU Executive Committee meeting, from the US Republican Party to the German CDU.
The resolution addresses these issues:
Democratic Slippage
The IDU highlights systemic violations during the elections, including vote buying, intimidation and misuse of state resources. Over 4,500 state activities were used for campaigning, for which no one bears any responsibility.
The State-Party-Crime Fusion
The resolution warns that criminal networks have influenced candidate lists and political processes in Elbasan, Durrës and Vora, undermining democratic integrity.
Political capture of justice
IDU expresses deep concern about blocked investigations, ignored decisions by the Constitutional Court, and increasing executive control over the prosecution, judiciary, press, and regulatory institutions.
Selective persecution of the opposition
The resolution condemns politically motivated prosecutions of several opposition figures, including DP leader Sali Berisha, PR leader Fatmir Mediu, and PL leader Ilir Meta.
Albania as a narco-state threat
The IDU emphasizes that Albania remains a regional center for drug trafficking and money laundering, a threat to European security and the credibility of the EU enlargement process.
Call to the EU, the US and the Council of Europe: The resolution calls for strict meritocracy conditions for Albania's path towards the EU and proposes the creation of an independent international mechanism for monitoring elections, justice and the media.
Targeted sanctions
IDU calls for targeted sanctions against officials linked to corruption, organized crime and political persecution in the country.
The danger of a narco-authoritarian regime
The resolution warns that Albania risks sinking into a narco-authoritarian regime if immediate reforms are not undertaken.
Support for Albanian democrats and oppositionists: IDU calls on its members to remain vigilant and support those fighting for freedom, pluralism and European values ??in Albania.
