Albania sends additional troops to Kosovo

Another contingent of the Armed Forces of Albania has joined the KFOR mission in Kosovo.

The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, said today that the participation in this NATO mission is a clear indication of Albania's determination to help and protect peace in the region.

"Recognizing the great importance of KFOR, for Kosovo and the Western Balkans, our Armed Forces are ready to serve alongside their international colleagues, confirming our role as an exporter of global peace and security", he emphasized.

After the developments of the last few months in the northern municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo, where armed and masked Serbs injured 30 KFOR soldiers, dozens of Kosovo policemen and journalists, NATO decided to increase its presence.

About 700 additional troops have been deployed in Kosovo within the framework of KFOR troops.
