Prime Minister Edi Rama considers this year's tourist season as a historic turning point for Albania.

In a press conference from the Prime Minister's Office, Rama emphasized that the country has already entered a new phase of transformation for tourism with the aim that by 2030, Albania will become the leading country for tourism in the Western Balkans region.

"This year, Albania is experiencing the season of a historic turning point that is the result of many efforts made in previous years and the crowning of a new phase of transformation for tourism. Today we see the first significant fruits on a road that for us is defined as the road to Albania 2030 where Albania will be the absolute champion in our region for tourism and when I say in our region I mean the Western Balkans".

The head of the government highlighted the high number of tourists who have entered Albania up to these moments.

"The figures speak of an extraordinary success also in terms of almost complete approach to Greece or other countries that are far ahead of us when it comes to the number of tourists per capita".

Prime Minister Rama also appreciated the transformation that "Mother Teresa" Airport has undergone, which processes about 200 flights per day.

"It is necessary to underline an element that is Tirana Airport, which has undergone a very important transformation with the change of the concessionaire, with the investments made by the Albanian company in the airport and, in fact, Albania in the increase in the number of passengers in air traffic is in the country of first and today we are in the conditions where we can say without reservation that we are not only competitive with Belgrade Airport, which is the largest airport in our region, but most likely we can surpass Belgrade Airport in the number of passengers this year. I believe it is important to remember that the Vlora Airport site is working according to schedule. Vlora Airport will be operated by Munich Airport and we are very confident that with the introduction of Vlora Airport we will have a significant boom in the increase in the number of tourists", said Rama.
