Rama's message for Ahmetaj: I do not support those who confuse the common

Prime Minister Edi Rama has publicly reacted for the first time after SPAK's request for the arrest of former deputy minister Arben Ahmetaj.

Through a message addressed to Albanians, Rama said that the Socialist Party does not support those who confuse the common path in governance, to fill their pockets.

Rama said that Ahmetaj is not an ordinary person, but a close associate of his, who has held important positions in the past.

Part of Rama's statement:

Today we voted on a SPAK request for the arrest of a deputy, who in the past held important positions.

This was another test for us. Anyone who has listened to me since the beginning of the time, I believe, should remember that I very persistently asked for this reform. When I spoke about the old system, I did not mean only the disgusting space of justice, where impunity had become a norm, but also a justice kneeling before a man in power.

Never since 2019 until the years when we, the SP, entered the sea on foot to push through the reform in justice, has it never been possible for a man in power to face justice. The case of Fatos Nano was the last of the persecution and imprisonment. The communist period was the most monstrous of that culture of barbarism. We do not want a justice to put against another party. We want honest justice in its judgments, regardless of party colors, clans, ties, temptations. I was not only the leader of the opposition but also the prime minister.

I have tried tirelessly to approve him, even at the cost of breaking up the coalition, and to support him even when he acts in some unconvincing way. Those who today and yesterday in the government robbed as much as they could and today they smear as much as they can without a single thorn getting in their feet.

Për ta udhëhequr këtë përpjekje historike, unë nuk pajtohem dot me askënd që abuzon me këtë besim duke e kthyer mandatin e shqiptarëve, dhe besimin tim në një mundësi të palejueshme për të fryrë xhepin. Me sa fuqitë e mija ma lejojnë, sado pak nderin që më kanë bërë shqiptarët, jam gati të mbaj baltën e pambarim që kundërshtarët më hedhin. Por nuk kam qenë dhe nuk do të jem gati të mbaj në shpinën e PS askënd.

Kur kam thënë se dua një drejtësi që të shohë drejt, pa i ulur sytë as përballë të majtës apo të djathtës, e kam ditur mirë edhe çfarë them edhe çfarë vjen. Po natyrisht t’i thuash këto, të përpiqesh me mish e me shpirt që të ndodhë kushtu, dhe t’i shohësh të ndodhin kështu, nuk ka se si të jetë e njëjta gjë. Kjo e drejtësisë prek jetët e tyre dhe cenon edhe lirinë e njerëzve, dhe pastaj ndër këta njerëz ndodh të jenë edhe persona me të cilët ke punuar, ke ndarë bashkë ditë të mira e të keqija, kjo bëhet edhe më e vështirë. Ndryshe nga të tjetra histori suksesi të politikës, kjo histori është e vështirë të tregohet si sukses. Arben Ahmetaj, nuk është asnjë njeri i panjohur dhe as një bashkëpunëtor i largët për mua. Ai është një nga bashkëpunëtorët me të cilin kam bashkëpunuar më shumë. Nuk më takon mua të them nëse është fajtor apo i pafajshëm. Ndryshe nga atëherë kur prokuroria erdhi si lexuese gazetash, këtë herë na erdhi një dosje voluminoze, ajo dosje provon se ka dyshime të mjaftueshme, këtu mbyllet çdo koment i imi mbi rastin konkret. Tanimë është në dorën e drjetësisë të na tregojë.

The level of resistance to illegal wealth, countless interventions due to duty is not the same. In the end, the fact remains that we all make our own choices, and my choice does not change in any case. I have said it many times since the first day in this building, that whoever confuses the common road with his pocket, takes a responsibility that he cannot share with me, nor with us, but must bear it himself.
