Socialist leader Edi Rama has convened the parliamentary group, where the proposed legal changes are being presented, which aim to no longer allow courts to suspend ministers or other constitutional positions from office.

The legal changes bear the signatures of Edi Rama, the leader of the SP group, Taulant Balla, and the chairman of the Laws Committee, Ulsi Manja.

After the presentation to the SP group, the proposal with the legal amendments to Article 242 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be submitted to the Assembly.

The Socialist Party will touch upon the article that currently does not allow the suspension from office of only the deputy or mayor. It will also add the President, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, ministers, the Ombudsman, the Head of the Supreme Audit Office and members of the Constitutional Court.

The approval of these legal changes does not have retroactive effect and does not release Belinda Balluku from the suspension measure, for which the Socialists are expected to convene the Mandates Council this week to arrest her, after the Constitutional Court issues its decision, which upheld the suspension from office.
