"Montenegro and Albania are considered by European Union officials to be the two most advanced candidate countries in the integration process," declared David Mc Allister, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament, who also announced a visit by 9 MEPs to Podgorica, initially, and then to Tirana on February 16 to 18.
The delegation aims to review the state of accession negotiations and outstanding reform priorities in each country, the Brussels official writes, among other things.
"Montenegro and Albania are the two candidate countries in the most advanced stage. Montenegro 7 has closed 13 negotiation chapters, while all of Albania's group chapters have already been opened."
On the agenda of the delegation of 9 MEPs is the review of the continuation of negotiations and the European Parliament's engagement with the governments and parliaments in Montenegro and Albania on how the two countries should best meet their ambitious objectives and address outstanding reforms, especially in the key chapters.
MEPs will also meet with ambassadors of EU member states, as well as representatives of civil society.
