The Ombudsman of Albania, Endrit Shabani , has been elected President of the Organization of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM), an intercontinental human rights monitoring network. The decision was taken unanimously by the organization's Board.

Established as a strategic platform for the protection of human rights, AOM brings together over 30 human rights guarantee institutions from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

This network includes countries such as: France, Spain and Greece, Morocco, Egypt, Israel and Jordan , creating a common front for overseeing governance and rule of law standards across the Mediterranean basin.

Albania's assumption of the presidency comes at a critical moment for the region, where the challenges of administrative accountability and the protection of civil liberties remain global priorities.

Shabani said: " As President of AOM, I will coordinate the network's efforts to strengthen the independence of Ombudsman institutions and ensure respect for citizens' rights in the face of executive power on three continents ."

The People's Advocate of Albania added that: " This positions the Office of the People's Advocate of Albania as a key actor in institutional diplomacy, giving Tirana a leading role in shaping regional agendas for administrative justice and human rights protection ."
