The Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party will present a request to the Speaker of the Assembly of Albania for the creation of a Special Parliamentary Commission "to combat disinformation and other forms of foreign interference in the democratic processes in Albania".
The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party, Bledi Çuçi, through a post on "X", states that "The Special Commission will implement a holistic and long-term approach to addressing foreign interference in democratic processes, which may include disinformation campaigns in traditional and social media to influence public opinion, direct and indirect financial support for disinformation efforts, economic blackmail of public actors and manipulation of civil society”.
"Based on Albania's commitments stemming from: the Memorandum of Understanding dated February 15, 2024 between Albania and the USA to address the manipulation of information by foreign state actors; Tirana Declaration of February 28, 2024 of the Ukraine-Southeastern Europe Summit; and EU recommendations for "continuing efforts to close the space for foreign interference and manipulation of information", writes Çuçi.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama has redistributed Çuçi's post, stressing that "Very important to move forward at full speed".
