The Chairman of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi , reacted after the Socialist majority's decision not to allow the lifting of Belinda Balluku's immunity , accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of defending corruption and obstructing justice.
Bardhi described the majority's decision as an attempt to block investigations and protect senior officials involved in corruption scandals.
According to him, the prime minister is caught in a system of corruption that, according to the opposition, was built by the government itself.
"SPAK has presented evidence for 11 tenders worth 1.1 billion euros, as well as evidence of pressure on witnesses through strongmen and money. In any normal democracy, Parliament would pave the way for justice. But today we saw something else: not only is the Prime Minister held hostage, but also Parliament is being held hostage to protect the corruption system, with architect Edi Rama and implementer Belinda Balluku and many others like her ," Bardhi's reaction states.
Bardhi emphasized that this situation, according to him, is no longer just an internal political debate, but also a test for Albania in relation to European integration.
He called for a civic protest, declaring that on March 12, citizens will react in front of Parliament against what he described as the state's capture by corruption.
"With Edi Rama's stance in favor of Belinda (corruption), against justice (integration), the black and white is confirmed: the country is governed by a prime minister hostage to a SPAK defendant. When the state is held hostage by corruption, the word remains with the citizens. On March 12, in front of Parliament, Albanians will show Edi Rama that Albania is not hostage to anyone ," declared the head of the DP Parliamentary Group.
Gazment Bardhi's reaction:
The decision of the "Supreme Court of the Republic - SP" not to allow the lifting of Belinda Balluku's immunity confirms what we have said since day one: Edi Rama is a hostage of Belinda Balluku. Caught in the corruption trap he built himself, Edi Rama is not a free prime minister to make decisions in the interest of Albania and Albanians. Otherwise, he would not be forced, after 10 years from the approval of the justice reform, to remove the propaganda mask of the reformer, becoming the major obstacle to justice!

This is no longer just an internal political issue. This was a critical test for Albania in relation to the European Union. Europe requires the rule of law and a real fight against corruption at the highest levels, but Edi Rama chose corruption and obstruction of justice! When justice is blocked to protect power, European integration is also held hostage.
