The Socialist Party agrees to authorize SPAK to arrest former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the Council of Mandates, Immunity and Regulation, where socialists presented their report.

Earlier, MP Gazment Bardhi also presented the opposition's report on the authorization of SPAK.

Although with two reports, the conclusion between the socialists and the democrats is the same: SPAK is authorized to arrest Arben Ahmetaj and carry out checks in his apartment.

The issue will be passed to the parliament and will probably be considered in the plenary session on Monday, according to the decision of the socialists, although the opposition has insisted that it be included in the next day's session.

At the end of the meeting, deputy Ervin Salianji said that this case has revealed the great corruption in the government of Edi Rama, where high officials and mayors are involved.

"Our opinion was that SPAK's request should be passed in the session tomorrow. Request that was opposed by the socialists. We will continue tomorrow as well, we are dealing with the case when the person is not in Albania. This case has revealed the great corruption of the government where dozens of high officials, mayors are involved in corruption. Edi Rama and the government should resign", said MP Salianji.

"The 5 deputies of the Council for Immunity, representatives of the opposition, recommend to the plenary session of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania to vote for the approval of the granting of authorization, requested by request no. 9431 Prot., dated 07.07.2023 of the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime "For granting the authorization for the arrest/deprivation of liberty, personal control and control of the apartment of deputy Arben Ahmetaj", in order to open the way for him full and comprehensive investigation within the framework of criminal proceedings no. 277/1, of the year 2022 for the 3 criminal offences", says the opposition report submitted by Bardhi.
