The Parliament has voted with a qualified majority on the draft resolution for Albania's integration into the EU, where the opposition has also joined its votes.
Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi, at the end of discussions that lasted from 10:00 am today, invited MPs to vote electronically.
In the end, the draft resolution passed with 114 votes in favor, only 1 abstention and none against.
Even in the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs, it had passed with full consensus and no opposition.
It is learned that the MP who abstained is Bujar Leskaj, of the Democratic Party.
The majority and the opposition, as rarely before, have joined their votes to approve the draft resolution on the country's European integration process.
At a moment when the positions between the SP and the DP seem to be deepening, "white smoke" appeared in the Assembly to reach consensus on this document.
The resolution envisages comprehensive cooperation and joint commitment to advancing Albania's accession process to the European Union.
But how was this agreement reached at the height of the debates, when the opposition in recent weeks has spoken of blocking integration and failing the IBAR exam, while the majority has declared that it is a normal continuation of negotiations with the EU?
Over the last 48 hours, Top Channel has learned that the two protagonists of the agreement are Taulant Balla and Gazment Bardhi.
There was a phone call between them, where Balla expressed his willingness to look at the opposition's proposals, setting up a working group in the Foreign Affairs Committee with Ilda Zhulali, advisor to the DP group, and Edmond Haxhinasto from the opposition, as well as Erion Malaj with Romina Kuko from the majority.
It is learned that the opposition's proposals have undergone changes in wording, resulting in a final product that has gone to Parliament for a vote and is expected to be approved in the coming hours.
The draft resolution has also received the blessing of Edi Rama and Sali Berisha, a constant critical voice for the way the government is dealing with European integration.
The EU has emphasized that Albania's European integration cannot be done unilaterally, without consensus with the opposition and without its involvement in reforms.
