Former president Bamir Topi, invited to the studio of the show "Breaking" with journalist Dafina Hysa on Top News, spoke about the political situation in the country.

He said that the political reality that we see today is the result of the 2008 agreement between the two major parties, stressing that he himself was against the constitutional changes which, according to him, would damage the institutions of the state.

"After so many years, what I said on April 15, 2008 was confirmed. I didn't speak after that, but days ago about those big problems that arose in relation to the president. I was alone in the battle with these, because they came together. It has never happened that a sitting head of state remained neutral. But I could not remain neutral because I saw that after the bargain they had with 2008, the foundations of the state would be affected, the institutions began to fall one after the other" - said Topi.

Among other things, the former head of state indicated that this was also the point of political separation he had with Berisha. According to Topi, the constitutional changes allowed even one political party to elect the president with 71 votes.

"I'm saying it today, maybe for the first time, before the constitutional changes, the president had a mechanism, he was very moral in relation to the people. When there were 84 votes, the act of resignation was very important, because with the act of resignation you lead the country to early elections to establish new political balances. But at the moment when the president was elected with 71 votes, they couldn't wait for this opportunity because tomorrow they would rather appoint a man who was in line with them. This was the moment when they parted ways" - added the former president.
