Xhemal Qefalia has been appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
The decision was taken today at the meeting of the Council of Ministers, following the proposal made by the Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu.
Qefalia, a former Socialist Party MP, was expected to return to the Assembly to replace Ogerta Manastirliu, should the latter run for mayor of Tirana. However, today he has taken on an important executive position, becoming Deputy Minister Koçiu at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This development comes just one day after the mafia attack near Rinas airport, where Gilmando Dani was killed and AMP officer Muçi Shaljani was injured, an event that has put law enforcement and investigation structures in motion.
With the decree of Kefalia as deputy minister, the Ministry of Interior is expected to strengthen management structures within the framework of measures for public security and internal police control.
