As Albania continues to await a green light that would allow for the country's faster integration into the European Union, members of the institution's Council confirm that further talks are needed between member states. It is reported that the discussions are in the preliminary stages.

"Some progress has been made, but discussions are still ongoing at this relatively preliminary stage. In any case, several more rounds of discussions are expected before an agreement can be reached at COELA level on a provisional draft EU Common Position (EUCP) ," the EU Council responded to ReportTv.

Without providing any further details about Albania's integration into the EU, it is noted that the draft common position is constantly rewritten, based on questions and concerns from member states.

“The provisional draft of the European Union Common Position (as presented by the Commission) has certainly undergone numerous changes, but this is still an evolving process (and there will be more in the coming meetings), as discussions at the level of the COELA WP are still ongoing. However, as mentioned above, we cannot disclose details of these discussions, as this could seriously jeopardise the internal procedures of the detailed discussions of the working group,” the Council of the European Union told Report.

Regarding our country's progress in European Union integration, Prime Minister Edi Rama has clarified that there has been no blockage in this process. He added that April will be an intensive period for decision-making as it is expected that EU countries will come up with a conclusion in the coming days.
