The chairman of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, declared today that it is time for SPAK to investigate the permits for the towers and resorts.

"There is an account of specialized institutions that in a period of 2 years, 1.6 billion euros are cleared in the construction sector in Albania. Can this happen without the knowledge of the 2 people who give the main building permits, Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj? The answer is: No, never! Anyone who orients the debate, ignoring this fact, serves dirty money", said Bardhi in a reaction.

"We have taken this position as a parliamentary group, even in July, when the initiative of colleague Jorida Tabaku to improve the law against money laundering was discussed. There is no doubt that those who are partners in laundering the money of crime and corruption cannot accept the action of the law against them. Therefore, we are today the place where the government, the municipality, the corrupt and the drug traffickers are partners among themselves with construction permits and money laundering", he emphasized.

"As one of the MPs who have repeatedly raised my voice and brought facts to denounce the involvement of the government and the municipality in the business of money laundering through high-rise towers, I repeat the call for SPAK to show that it is stronger than political corruption and that organized crime", added Bardhi.

"2 years ago, SPAK opened an investigation, after the interceptions of the Italian Anti-Mafia revealed that construction permits in Tirana are not only bought with dirty money, but the construction of towers, with the signature of Rama and Veliaj, serves to clean up of organized crime money. Albanian citizens have the right to know what is being done with this investigation. The silence of the Prosecutor General and SPAK does not serve the public interest", Bardhi further stated.

Regarding the tower that will be built behind the Opera and Ballet Theater that is allegedly being built by the people of "Foltore", Bardhi said:

"The initiation of the construction of the highest tower in the Balkans in the center of Tirana, occupying another green space, has made the intervention of justice necessary to investigate the procedures for obtaining the permit, the real owners, as well as the sources of financing. And not only for this occasion. Every similar permit should be investigated in Tirana and on the coast of Albania, where corruption and organized crime have worn the costume of the strategic investor".
