Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party branch in Elbasan, spoke about Zvërnec, stating why he will not resign as prime minister as protesters are demanding.
"How can we be reduced and become prey to some ignorant people who go around with a vengeance to protect the environment and talk about the Albania of Albanians and about foreigners who should be expelled from Albania, and talk about the properties of the owners that should be confiscated, and about the properties of the state, that I don't know what should be done. What is this? This is great stupidity and in these moments, precisely in these moments, when Albania is facing the greatest challenge of its historical self and when the Albanian nation is facing the realization of a moment as historic as the League of Prizren, such as joining the EU, these are agendas and movements and stupidity that go in the wrong direction in the sense of history.
I'm not discussing here whether they are right or wrong. That's not the point, everyone has the right to have their own opinion. But if you are concerned about flamingos, nature, about how a development should not harm nature, but help Albania, you are the first to be concerned about facts, not lies. You are the first to echo the truths, not manipulations.
Resignation? Which resignation, from what? Resignation from the SP mission to join Albania in the EU? Who will go and represent Albania there? Who will sit there to negotiate with the EU? Who will stand up for Albania? Those who think that it is enough to dress like a flamingo and be sexy and the others will come after?
"We, while the theory of traitors has also emerged, these are nonsense that countries have paid very dearly for. If I don't go to Germany, they will tell me why I confuse them? I don't confuse them with the Nazis. Nazism triumphed not because there were a few bad people who took it upon themselves to lead Germany down that path, but because many good people went after the bad ones ," he said.
Rama has been critical, accusing protesters, citizens, bloggers and journalists. His reaction comes after protests that have been taking place for several days in Tirana and beyond.
Rama also had an accusation against Mustafa Nano.
"We are not traitors, these people show us corruption, bloggers who leave no money uncollected by showing all the parts of their bodies that I showed them for free when I was young. And they don't pay a single euro in taxes. We are traitors, some analysts and journalists who are paid in cash. They come here and cry about the plight of the Flamengos... Moral from Mustafa Nano who came to my office, lay down on the couch and said I have no power to deal with this country, I want to go ambassador", he said.
