Minister of Health Evis Sala , in a press conference, presented the priorities for reforming the oncology service at the national level.
The Minister announced the creation of the National Cancer Institute and the National Tumor Network, while announcing a full analysis of the current situation.
"Within the year, the retraining of 6 regional points will be completed and work is also underway to retrain 6 other points, as well as install Linear Accelerator 3 in the Oncology Service," said the minister, adding that an expansion of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency for PET scans is expected.
Minister Sala also announced a decision taken yesterday at the QSUT, to establish a breast center, a multidimensional treatment center for patients affected by breast cancer.
"2026 marks the start of a historic reform for the Albanian hospital system. A multi-sectoral working group is being established with the involvement of national and international experts to draft the National Hospital Plan. The priority is to prepare changes for the Advisory Committee and finalize the institutional framework for evidence-based decision-making, as well as mapping the current situation of the hospital system: performance, real capacities, geographical distribution of services and demographic needs," she said.
