Western Balkan and European leaders will gather today for the next joint EU-Western Balkans summit. The summit will take place in Brussels at around 17:30, where the opening of Albania's negotiations for Cluster 6 'External Relations' was also formalized the day before. From Albania, Prime Minister Rama will be present at the summit.

The regular holding of joint EU-Western Balkans summits is one of the proofs that the EU prioritizes this region, its relations with its countries, but also the process of their full integration into the EU. Strengthening the partnership between the European Union and the Western Balkan countries, including through the gradual integration of these countries into some EU policies, will be the focus of the summit, where a joint declaration is also expected to be adopted.

" Enlargement is a geostrategic investment in peace, stability and prosperity. There is now a new dynamism in the enlargement process. Accelerating the enlargement process, based on fair and strict conditionality and the principles of individual merit, is in the common interest ," the statement, which is expected to be adopted, says.

At a time of Russian aggression in Ukraine, and with changing global circumstances, it is expected to be reiterated that the partnership between the EU and the countries of the region is more important than ever.

Precisely to help accelerate the enlargement process, this summit will call on the countries of the region to resolve their disagreements with their neighbors, both with the member states of the European Union and among themselves in the region, as soon as possible.

"Regional and bilateral disagreements rooted in the past have for too long prevented a focus on the future. The implementation of bilateral agreements in good faith and with tangible results, including the Prespa Agreement with Greece and the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborhood and Cooperation Agreement with Bulgaria, remains key," the statement said.
