Prime Minister Edi Rama says that the third intergovernmental conference with the European Union has come about thanks to the support of member states.
From Brussels, at a press conference, Rama stated that the ambition is for negotiations to be concluded in 2027, while membership to be achieved within this decade.
" I am very happy to be here, with our friend Peter and also with Commissioner Kos, who has started on the best possible foot, not even a month into her mandate, and has witnessed two big steps forward. But ours is the most important. Almost two months after the opening of negotiations with this speed, it seems that what is happening is thanks to the Hungarian presidency and the incredible energy of the Hungarian and foreign ministers to make this ambition for EU enlargement as high as possible.
Secondly, I know that all this could not have happened without the support of the member states, they have been kind, I feel that I need to look at myself and see a not too distant view, but I have to say that today we have a clearer view of the work that has been done. We take it as a real encouragement that we have a lot of work ahead. All these thanks are sincere and come from the heart, thanks to the teamwork and joint efforts.
It is not easy and they themselves know how difficult it is, but it is also part of fulfilling and maturing and learning how to become better. We are aware that Europe is not united only by geography, but by democracy. There is no doubt in our minds that a Europe with the Western Balkans will be stronger and more united, more secure. Our ambition, we want to make sure that we have done our homework and that our negotiations are concluded in 2027. Our membership is concluded within this decade ,” he stressed.
