The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during a meeting with the citizens of the 7th district in Tirana, declared that Albania is in one of the most critical moments in its democratic history, describing the current situation as worse than the time of dictatorship. According to him, the state has degraded and the elections have turned into a farce, while power is being used as a shield for crime and corruption.

"We are holding this meeting at a truly critical moment for the country," said Berisha, emphasizing that for years the opposition has faced oppression and a mechanism where, according to him, crime turns into votes and votes into crime.

Berisha accused Prime Minister Rama of buying the elections and that the mandates he received are being used to protect affairs and abuses. "After the elections turned into an electoral farce, these mandates are being used as a shield for crime and looting," he declared.

According to Berisha, the elections were not only rigged in 2025, but since 2017. He expressed his conviction that the opposition won the 2021 elections, but they were hijacked through the distribution of public money for electoral purposes. "Around 130 million euros were distributed in certain areas, according to the electoral map, to buy votes," he said, emphasizing that this practice has destroyed citizens' trust in the free vote.

In his speech, Berisha also mentioned the "Black Book of Elections", which according to him has stigmatized the government in the international arena. "The Black Book of Elections stigmatized Rama in all four corners of the globe", he said, adding that with about 2 billion euros, according to him, the May 11 elections were annihilated.

Berisha stressed that a government that does not emerge from free elections has no legitimacy and that citizens have the right to oppose such a government. "Legitimacy stems only from free elections. With Edi Rama, there are no elections," he declared.

He listed some of the serious violations during the election campaign, according to him, such as using the administration as “electoral police”, distributing money to pensioners in the middle of the campaign, activating criminal groups in several cities and granting licenses for the cultivation of cannabis beyond any legal limits. Berisha called for a political solution to the crisis, emphasizing that the Democratic Party no longer accepts the current government. “Either a technical government, or a confrontation. We will never accept this government again”, he declared.

Another strong point of the speech was the accusation of “plundering citizens”. According to Berisha, any government that robs citizens automatically loses legitimacy. He spoke about scandals that, according to him, reach a minimum value of 12 billion euros and about the use of political immunity to protect high-ranking officials from justice. Making historical comparisons, Berisha also recalled the events of February 1991, emphasizing that the democrats have gone through severe trials, but have always emerged stronger. “We did not bow down then and we will not bow down today either”, he said, assuring supporters that the fight for a free vote and for democracy will continue.

In conclusion, Berisha emphasized that the Democratic Party sees this moment as a historic mission. "We have come to the battlefield rightly. We will win, because we are fighting for the free vote and for the dignity of Albanian citizens," he concluded.
