It was 2015, when Ilir Meta strongly expressed his support for the socialist candidate for mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. "The right direction for Tirana" was the slogan of the mayor of Tirana and he ran against Halim Kosova, who was the candidate of the Democratic Party.

In the newspaper of this party at the time, it was written in large letters in 2015: 'Ilir Meta: Erion Veliaj a prominent figure, he has all our support .'

This support would continue even later, when in the 2017 elections, during an inauguration in Čekreza, Meta would appear next to Veliaj and declare that he felt happy about the work done in Tirana.

While in another outing, he would describe Erion Veliaj as an example of management and dedication.
