What will happen to Beller? Micotaqis meets Rama in Vilnius
Rama and Micotaqis

The Prime Ministers of Greece and Albania will meet in Vilnius, Lithuania on the afternoon of July 11.

The news is confirmed by TCH, which writes that it was the Greek side that agreed for the two leaders to meet to restart the talks and contacts interrupted due to the election campaign in Greece and the Beleri case.

Sources told TCH that the Beleri issue will be the main topic of the talks between Rama and Micotaqi. The Greek Prime Minister is expected to repeat this time also in the meeting with Prime Minister Rama, that Mr. Beleri should continue his duties as the elected mayor of the municipality of Himara, in function of what Athens calls the functioning of the rule of law and respect for national minorities and minorities in our country.

Despite the easing of the measure against Mr. Beleri, Athens has threatened that it will be the European organizations that will penalize official Tirana on its European path if Mr. Beleri is not allowed to exercise his duties as the elected mayor of Himara municipality.

It remains to be seen how Mr. Rama will explain to his Greek counterpart that neither he nor anyone can intervene before the Special Court for Mr. Beleri, since it is a court that has so far shown that it receives neither command nor guidance from the socialist government of Tirana, which is also shown by the fact that this court has hit quite a few exponents of the Albanian left.

In the best case scenario, it is expected that Athens will understand the situation and bypass the impasse created by the arrest and detention of Freddie Bailer to pave the way for other processes initiated by the two countries during the first phase of the talks, such as the acceleration of the extradition of the sea issue at the court in The Hague, now that President Begaj also gave the formal authorization for the commission that will negotiate with Greece on this issue, or the large projects of the region, the cooperation on the European path of our country or the old issues carried between two countries over the years.

In the most pessimistic version of this meeting and the confirmation of possible disagreements between the two countries, then winter will start earlier in the climate between the two countries, confirming the attitude of those who do not believe that the relations between Athens and Tirana are sincere, but they are severely affected whenever one or the other party has a grievance.

It is worth noting that this will be the first meeting with the Albanian side in which Mr. Micotaqis will be accompanied by the new Greek Foreign Minister Jorgos Gjerapetritis and not by Nikos Dendias who is already the Minister of Defense of the Hellenic Republic, and a friend of well of Mr. Rama.
