Disinformation in Albania, as well as the efforts of foreign countries such as Russia to misinform, will also be fought through legal changes. This seems to be the plan of the Socialist Party, which a few days ago requested the establishment of a Special Commission in the Assembly, which will focus on foreign interference in the democratic processes in the country.
The majority intends to close some media, portals, or accounts in social networks through these legal changes in case they manipulate the public.
In the request filed in the Assembly, it is stated, among other things, that an investigation will be conducted into the ownership of the portals in our country.
The Special Commission is expected to conduct an analysis of the situation, focusing on the financing of election campaigns as well as media platforms.
"In the direction of increasing the responsibility of platforms and social media to classify the content of news, information that is distributed by robots, reviewing the algorithms, as well as without infringing the freedom of expression, to close the accounts of persons or entities that engage in abusive behavior coordinated inauthentic online or illegal activities aimed at systematically undermining democratic processes or inciting hate speech," the request states.
This initiative to combat disinformation and interventions by third actors seeking instability is being undertaken by all NATO countries.
