The opening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the symbols of the French capital, was held in Paris on Saturday evening.

The ceremony was attended by 1,500 guests from around the world, including US President-elect Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the Prince of Wales.

Also present at the ceremony, which took place inside the cathedral, due to weather conditions, was Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Also at the opening ceremony were US First Lady Jill Biden, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Sergio Mattarella, and Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani.

French President Macron, addressing the audience, said that with the reconstruction of Notre-Dame, we rediscovered what great nations could do: achieve the impossible.

"For 5 years, every man, every woman who worked here, every gesture from every far corner of the world was needed," Macron said.

Pope Francis, in his message, although he was not part of the ceremony, said that the rebirth of this admirable Church should be a prophetic sign of the renewal of the Church in France.

"I invite all the baptized who will joyfully enter this Cathedral to feel legitimate pride and reclaim their heritage of faith," said Pope Francis' message, which was read by the Apostolic Nuncio to France, Monsignor Celestino Migliore.

"We all still remember the terrible fire that five years ago severely damaged the building. Our hearts sank at the risk of seeing a work of faith and Christian architecture, a centuries-old witness to your history, disappear. Today, sadness and mourning give way to joy, celebration and praise for all those, especially the firefighters, who worked bravely to save this historic monument from ruin, for the great international generosity that contributed to its restoration," Pope Francis' message said.
