It has been suggested to Bujar Osman that after the mandate as Minister of Foreign Affairs in Kosovo, he should consider the possibility of running for Secretary General of NATO.
The news was made public the day before by TV21, referring to diplomatic sources.
While today, Osmani himself responded by confirming that there are recommendations from international organizations, but without specifically indicating which ones.
"It is true that I have some recommendations for some international organizations, but now I am focused on my political commitments in the country," he said.
It remains to be seen whether Osmani will retire from the local political career and move to the international one if he fails to become the President of the RMV.
Otherwise, there is no formal process for choosing the NATO secretary general.
Alliance members traditionally reach a consensus on who should take over as Secretary General.
This procedure often takes place through informal diplomatic channels, but it can also be contested.
Currently the Secretary General of NATO is Jens Stoltenberg, after on July 4, 2023 the allies agreed to extend his mandate for another year, until October 1, 2024.
