MP Erjon Braçe raised concerns in the Assembly today about the non-functioning of the Edit Durham 9-year School, although its construction has been completed for several weeks.
According to him, for four weeks now he has been asking the Minister of Education for an official answer as to why the school has not yet started operating, while the building is ready.
"Next week will be more than 4 weeks since the request for a question-and-answer session with the Minister of Education. I see that the Minister is here and I understand that it is a problem of the parliament. The issue I am interested in is the opening of the 'Edith Durham' school, which was completed in October and has not yet opened on February 19. (...) There are at least 850 students there who go on the second shift, 1700 parents and grandparents who have to adjust their agenda and work to get an answer about when the school will open on January 11," said Braçe
But while only “Edit Durham” was mentioned in the Assembly, according to the testimony of a parent and verification by Vox News, the same situation is also present in the 9-year school “Pjetër Budi” in Tirana. This school, which, in addition to the fact that it exceeded every reconstruction deadline, today turns out to be completed, but has not yet opened its doors to students.
As a result, the children of "Pjetër Budi" are taking classes in shifts at schools near the area, a solution that complicates the learning process, but also family organization, as the SP MP said.
At this point, the question remains concrete: If the buildings are ready, what is preventing children from entering school?
Until a response from the Ministry of Education, students at "Edit Durham" and "Pjetër Budi" will continue to study in difficult conditions, while the new schools remain empty awaiting an inauguration with an "election background."
