The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting with democratic supporters in Lezha, where in addition to his speech, he was also faced with awkward and direct questions and criticism from the participants.
One of the democrats raised concerns about the lack of contact between the DP leaders and the grassroots, emphasizing that for about eight months there has been insufficient communication, which according to him harms the internal life of the party.
He described this situation not as Berisha's personal fault, but as a result of misinformation from senior party leaders and regional leaders, who, according to him, are disconnected from the Democrats.
In response, Berisha acknowledged the criticism and said that it would be taken into account. He guaranteed that the Democratic Party would engage in a more intensive dialogue with the grassroots, both through MPs and party leaders. Berisha stressed that the breakaway came as a result of a busy period of political confrontation with the government, where the main focus was on protecting the vote.
Another direct question concerned the issue of leadership and handing over the baton.
The Democrat expressed doubt whether Berisha is hesitant to step down from the leadership of the DP due to fears that the party could end up in the "wrong hands" again.
Berisha responded by emphasizing that he has no intention of appointing a personal successor. He stated that he does not intend to leave a legacy to his family members either and that his successor will be the one elected and supported by the Democrats themselves.
"Now, to be honest, the only thing I can never do is have a successor. It's not realistic, I have no intention of leaving a successor, neither my daughter nor my son. I will leave a successor to the one you choose and trust the most ," Berisha said.
