Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha, in a statement to the media today, March 24, commented on the price of oil, which has recently increased, also due to the war in the Middle East.
Berisha said that the government's fiscal burden is a terrible fine, which weighs heavily on the pockets of citizens. The Democrat leader made accusations, saying that 350 thousand tons of smuggled oil enter Albania.
"Oil has become an instrument of tyranny against Albanians, an instrument of stratospheric prices, unimaginable prices. The price of oil in Albania is 60 percent higher than in Kosovo and North Macedonia. The taxes that Rama has imposed on the price of oil weigh down the pockets of Albanians. The fiscal burden is too great on the price of oil. It is a terrible fine that weighs on citizens. Oil smuggling is another problem, 350 thousand tons of contraband enter Albania. Contraband oil has invaded the Albanian market. All the money earned from smuggling goes to Rama.
"He collaborates with oil companies, contributing to excessively high prices. The price of oil is based on very high government taxes, which are about 30 percent higher than in EU countries, it is based on smuggling and other taxes, related to customs warehouses, which weigh on the pockets of citizens," Berisha said.
The leader of the Democratic Party also provided a solution to this situation. According to him, with the Democratic Party in power, the price of oil in our country will be the same as in Kosovo and North Macedonia, as taxes will be immediately reduced.
"The Democratic Party has a package for this major problem, which impacts the Albanian economy. We have the package ready for the price of oil, setting taxes at an equal level with Kosovo and North Macedonia. This will absolutely be achieved when the Democratic Party is in power," Berisha declared.
Berisha also congratulated former President of the Republic Ilir Meta on his birthday. He said that Meta is the main political prisoner in the country. Berisha also made a strong denunciation, saying that Meta is left without water in prison.
"Today I salute all the political prisoners who are in prison, just because they protested against this mafia government. I salute the main political prisoner and he is Ilir Meta. They pierce the former president's water bottles in his cell, leaving him without water. You can understand for yourself what a black soul this man who is in government today, Edi Rama, has," Berisha said.
