Minister of Culture Elva Margariti at the press conference after the government meeting was asked, among other things, about the status of Butrint Park, in particular for an area of about 800 hectares that has lost its previous status.
According to the Minister, “The Integrated Management Plan has placed in the attention of the institutions, based on the recommendation of UNESCO, the review of the borders of protected areas, where they have lost their status.
The removed area of 800 hectares is the area of Ksamil, an urbanized area that we have qualified in vain as the Bathorja of Butrint ”.
According to her, “this area has been declared as an area with archaeological potential. From 2014 we have set a clear legal framework, where we have seen the lack of archaeological potential. So we are not touching anything that has environmental and archaeological value. There has come a moment of review of many national parks, around 18. As for the Bay of Manastir, there is no review of the area.
Margariti added that "in Butrint there will be no construction, beyond the visitor center which is a missing asset to reach a world standard".
