Today marks the 34th anniversary of the fall of communism. In commemoration of December 8, 1990, the Democratic Party Youth Forum will honor this day today with a march starting from Student City and continuing towards the Prime Minister's Office. The march, which will start at 11:00, will be joined by the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.

"At 11:00, in commemoration of December 8, 1990, Youth Day, the FRPD marches to honor the heroic act of the students who lit the flame of democracy in Albania. The march will start from the Student City and continue towards the Prime Minister's Office. The leader of the Democratic Party, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, will also join the march," the DP announces.

Since 2009, by decision of the Albanian Parliament, this date has been commemorated as a national holiday in honor of all the students of December 1990 and all Albanian youth.

It was December 8, 1990, when a group of students and professors of the Universities of Tirana, residents of the city "Studenti", became the initiators and protagonists of the great historical turning point, the peaceful protests that brought pluralism, the fall of communism and the birth of democracy.

With the phrase, "We love Albania like all of Europe!", they called for the establishment of a system of Western values ??and the rule of law, integration into Europe, and the guarantee of political pluralism as the main basis for a free and democratic society.

The protests would continue until December 11, when in a meeting with the then President of Albania, Ramiz Ali, political pluralism was confirmed, which they declared immediately after returning from that meeting, starting the organizations for the establishment of the Democratic Party.

The Student Movement would continue with organizations and protests in the early days of 1991 until the days of the hunger strike, culminating at noon on February 20, 1991, when students, supported by professors and many citizens of Tirana, landed in Skanderbeg Square, toppling the bust of dictator Enver Hoxha.
