A church in Switzerland has recreated the likeness of Jesus Christ using an artificial intelligence model, according to ThisOurPlanet.
The celestial hologram is capable of conversing in 100 different languages.
The church reports that two-thirds of people who spoke to Jesus IA claimed to have had a 'spiritual' experience in the confessional booth.
The installation is aptly named 'Deus in Machina', a reference to a Latin phrase that translates to "a God from a machine".
The project is part of an ongoing collaboration with the research lab of the local university, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, on the reality of how people relate to AI in a spiritual environment.
How does Jesus AI work?
The Jesus IA model works similarly to a voice-controlled LLM chatbot, such as Llama, ChatGPT, or Gemini.
The user asks their questions and the AI ??formulates the answer while animating the face so that it appears to be 'speaking'.
The AI ??avatar is placed in a confessional booth – traditionally resembling a priest sheltering on one side of it – and offers instructions to participants seated on the other side of the booth.
The screen featuring the animation of Jesus is placed behind the traditional mesh that separates the two sides of the booth, usually creating a sense of anonymity.
The AI ??program itself has been trained on theological texts, which means that the AI ??Jesus can use all of this information to provide reasoned answers.
