Brooklyn Beckham, the famous son of David and Victoria Beckham, has made strong accusations in a lengthy statement, targeting his parents for mistreating his wife on their wedding day.
At the age of 26, he made it clear that he has no desire to mend his relationship with his family and that he is standing up for himself for the first time in his life. Brooklyn shared the statement via multiple Instagram posts, where he revealed some sad details about the relationship within the Beckham family.
One of Brooklyn's main accusations was that his family tried to control his life, including his wife, Nicola Peltz. He denied this and said that he was the one who was controlled by his parents for most of his life, citing excessive stress and anxiety.
"The story about my wife controlling me is untrue. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life," Brooklyn wrote. He also accused his parents of spreading lies in the media to maintain a perfect facade.
Brooklyn said his relationship with his family broke down on the wedding day, when some family members said Nicola was "not part of the blood" and "wasn't part of the family." This moment made him feel like this was the tipping point that tore apart his relationship with his family.
Regarding the wedding, he also criticized Victoria's decision to cancel the plan to design Nicola's wedding dress at the last minute, thus forcing his wife to look for another dress.
In another shocking allegation, Brooklyn said his parents pressured him into signing an agreement that would sever the rights to his famous name, “Beckham.” He said the pressure was related to his marriage and was an attempt to manipulate him to preserve the family’s image.
In a host of other allegations, Brooklyn criticized his family's unwanted intrusions into his private life and his parents' attempts to control his relationship with his wife. He also criticized his father, David, for refusing to spend time with him and his wife, placing unacceptable conditions on him to meet him in London.
At the end of the statement, Brooklyn emphasized that he and Nicola will withdraw from any ties to the family and pursue their lives without outside interference, to find peace and happiness for him and their potential children.
“When I left my family, the anxiety I had had my whole life disappeared. Every day I wake up grateful for the life I have chosen, and I have found peace and relief,” he wrote. “My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, pressure or manipulation. What we want is peace, privacy and happiness.”
