The famous Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis has been hospitalized at the "Dromokaiteio" psychiatric hospital for four days.
Mazonakis was hospitalized last Thursday afternoon following a prosecutor's order.
According to Greek media, it is alleged that his confinement in a psychiatric clinic was done through 'tricks' by his sister and father. The singer's sister was previously his career manager, but there were conflicts between them over income and wealth issues.
After the news of his hospitalization, the reactions from well-known people in Greek showbiz and public figures, but also from the general public, have not stopped.
They write that what has been done to one of Greece's iconic singers is intolerable and shameful, demanding that measures be taken immediately to return him home.
They state that even if he needed treatment, it is not done in this way by publicly belittling an artist of that level.
Meanwhile, there has been no reaction from the singer's family yet.
The singer's lawyer has indicated that he has not had contact with his family for more than two years and that they are in court over property issues.
"Jorgo is very well, he is sad about the terrible way he was locked up in the clinic by his family members, but he is completely healthy. In the last two years, Jorgo has had no contact with his family because they are in a lawsuit over their property. We were ready to file several complaints in September about serious abuses committed by his sister, and now what happened happened."
Anyone can go to the prosecutor's office and request that a member of their family be admitted to a clinic on the grounds that they are mentally ill, and this can then happen with or without supervision. Keep in mind that he was taken on a holiday when the institutions were closed.
"A month ago, his family members went to his house and asked to talk, but he did not accept them and asked them to leave. Meanwhile, 4 months ago, a meeting took place with his sister in my presence, where we tried to find a solution to the problems we are in court for, but we did not succeed and we would continue the court hearings," he said.
