The increasing sophistication of artificial intelligence (AI) is predicted to transform the role of humans in various work sectors. However, Bill Gates, the Microsoft technology magnate, expresses optimism for the future. He believes that while AI has the potential to disrupt the workplace, it will make some professions shine even more.

In a podcast, Gates and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman talked about the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence.

While talking about the impact of artificial intelligence on the business world, Gates said that he too could lose his job, while pointing to three areas that will be immune to AI.

"I could lose my job too. The top three career plans for young people are alternative energy, health biosciences and fields related to the development of artificial intelligence."

1- Alternative energy sector

Climate change and the need for sustainable energy are the main drivers in the alternative energy sector. Innovation and technology development in the field of renewable energy such as solar, wind and nuclear require a touch of human expertise.

The ability to think critically, to solve complex problems and to innovate are the main attributes of professionals in this field. AI is not yet able to replace human reasoning and creativity in creating future energy solutions. Therefore, jobs in this field will continue to exist even as AI becomes more widespread in the industrial world.

2- Health biosciences

Technological advances in the field of health biosciences have indeed opened wide avenues for researchers and practitioners. Developing new drugs, innovative therapies and advanced medical technologies requires human expertise and precision, which AI cannot yet replicate. Empathy, communication skills and the ability to adapt to complex situations in the medical world are an irreplaceable added value.

3- Development of AI

Ironically, even though AI has the potential to replace many professions, the field of AI development itself requires a lot of human talent. Developing, programming and maintaining AI systems requires unique human skills and creativity. AI designers and engineers must understand the needs and ethics of using AI so that this technology can be optimally used for the benefit of humanity.

Gates also emphasizes the importance of upskilling and adaptation (retraining) in this era, suggesting that individuals focus on developing cognitive skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity.

Equally important are interpersonal skills such as effective communication, empathy and teamwork, which will be a powerful weapon in the face of technological disruption.

Bill Gates further called for investment in the education and training sector. By equipping the new generation with relevant skill sets, they will be able to adapt and contribute optimally in the AI-dominated era. With the right education and willingness to adapt, humans need not fear the marginalized, but can work with AI to build a better future.
