Named "Dua", famous actor couple attacked for choosing "Arab name" for their daughter

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, a famous Bollywood (film industry in India) couple, were blessed with a baby girl on September 8, 2024 and on the occasion of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

The couple revealed their baby girl's name but not everyone was expecting it.

Although fans and colleagues have congratulated the couple, some social media users have expressed disgust and questioned the choice of name.

The couple has been attacked by some netizens who claim that the name "Dua" is inappropriate for an Indian child. There are even those who argue that the couple should have chosen a more conventional Indian name.

One person on social media wrote, “Why Muslim name. They are hurting the sentiments of sanatana Dharma,” expressing outrage along with many other commentators.

Dua is also the name of the famous Albanian singer, Dua Lipa, although she explained in a show that the meaning is like the verb "dua", i.e. love. The Arabic version is the word dua, which means prayer.
