The Kosovo Assembly has approved the statement on the verdict of the Specialist Chambers against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim and Jakup Krasniqi.

The declaration stems from the coordination of the Vetëvendosje Movement, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance.

This statement was approved with 99 votes in favor, none against, and no abstentions.

 The statement was presented by the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, who said that the parliament rejects the unjust verdict of the Special Court. “Remembering that the freedom and independence of Kosovo are the fruit of a long struggle for human dignity, equality and the right of a people to decide for themselves about their future, recalling that the people’s struggle for freedom and independence through the Kosovo Liberation Army was born in circumstances of systematic repression and genocidal crimes of Serbia, when the people of Kosovo were being denied their fundamental rights and the very opportunity to live freely in their country. Recognizing the crucial importance of NATO’s intervention in stopping violence against the people of Kosovo and liberating the country.

Emphasizing that no verdict can undo the historical truth of the war in Kosovo, Serbia committed genocide and crimes against humanity, carried out a savage campaign of terror and ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, massacred innocent civilians, killed children, women and the elderly, used sexual violence as a weapon of war, forcibly expelled the population and burned and destroyed entire villages and cities. These crimes were systematic, the consequences of which still weigh on thousands of families in Kosovo today. Convinced that respecting the rule of law also includes the right and responsibility to oppose, through legal and institutional means, a verdict that is considered unjust, the freedom and independence of Kosovo are closely linked to the sacrifice of generations, to the political and peaceful resistance led by President Ibrahim Rugova, to the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army and to the decisive support of our Western allies, including NATO”, declared Haxhiu.
