The Legislation Committee has approved the draft law amending the Law on Specialized Chambers.
Nine deputies present voted in favor, with no votes against or abstentions.
The draft law is now expected to pass in the Assembly session, which began at 09:00.
The main point of the day will be the vote on the Law on the Specialist Chambers. The initiative to amend the Law on the Specialist Chambers was submitted by the Democratic Party of Kosovo on September 21, a few days after the verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
The draft law, initiated by the PDK, envisages changes to the jurisdiction of the Specialist Chambers, including the possibility for cases considered outside their jurisdiction to be processed in Kosovo. It also envisages the possibility of an appeal to the Supreme Court of Kosovo, limiting the maximum sentence to 15 years and serving sentences in Kosovo. One of the proposed changes is the possibility for persons convicted by the Specialist Chambers to be subject to presidential pardon.
