Murder of right-wing extremist sparks bitter clash between Meloni and Macron

Giorgia Meloni and Emmanuel Macron clashed publicly after the murder of 23-year-old far-right activist Kentin Derank in Lyon last weekend.

The Italian prime minister had called his death “a blow to all of Europe.” The French president, speaking from India, made harsh accusations that Meloni was unduly interfering in France’s internal affairs.

Executives in Melon's circle said Macron's comments caused "surprise" and argued that her statement was intended "to show solidarity with the French people affected by this terrible event and in no way to interfere in the internal affairs of France."

Earlier, Macron had said that “it strikes me that people who are nationalists, who don’t want to be bothered at home, are always the first to comment on what is happening in other countries.” He added: “If everyone minded their own business, things would be fine.”

Derank lost his life after being hit in the head during a fight outside an event attended by France's Insubordine MEP Rima Hassan at a university in Lyon.

The Lyon prosecutor announced that seven people were placed under official investigation, including an associate of a member of parliament for France Undefeated.
