The European Union has reacted to the death of the leader of the Russian opposition, Alexei Navalny , who died this Friday in the prison premises, where he had been transferred to Siberia.

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel , has also reacted to the news , blaming the death of President Vladimir Putin's regime.

In a reaction to ' X ', Michel expresses his condolences to the family and underlines that fighters die, but the fight for freedom never ends.

" Alexei Navalny fought for the values ​​of freedom and democracy. For his ideals, he made the ultimate sacrifice. The EU considers the Russian regime solely responsible for this tragic death.

My deepest condolences to his family. And to those who fight for democracy around the world in the darkest conditions. Warriors die. But the fight for freedom never ends ," Michel wrote in "X".
