American General Wesley Clark testified yesterday at the Hague Special Court in the ongoing trial against Hashim Thaçi and 3 other former KLA leaders who are accused of war crimes in the Kosovo war.

Before leaving, Clark gave a powerful speech in which he emphasized that the KLA fighters were not terrorists and to make a comparison he said that they had done the same thing that Ukraine is doing today against Russia, or the same thing that American patriots had done several hundred years ago against the British.

Wesley Clark: I mentioned the American Revolution a few times. We're in an era where there are great forces trying to influence different governments. Since World War II, we've tried to have a rules-based international system, which has worked to some extent, but not entirely.

After Yugoslavia fell apart and people in Yugoslavia demanded the same freedoms as the West. We also have a situation in Ukraine. I'm not trying to be rude, because criminal trials are important, but there has to be a limit when it comes to order.

So there is order, but people must be respected and fight for their rights. And that's what the KLA tried to do in the early '99s, when they simply refused to accept the oppression by the Serbs, and did their utmost to resist the Serbs.

SO, they are NOT terrorists! Even though the Serbian generals said they were terrorists. They were not terrorists, but they were fighting against an unjust regime! I think this is very difficult for the jurisprudence of the courts. Here we have people who fought for their freedom. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain myself. I have followed this trial and I stand by my conviction that Hashim Thaçi is not responsible for what happened in Kosovo. He is not responsible for individual acts of violence and revenge .
