The US House of Representatives has voted overwhelmingly to release files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In Tuesday's vote, 427 representatives voted in favor of the measure, which forces the Justice Department to make its files on Epstein public.
Only one vote was against. President Donald Trump had earlier bowed to mounting pressure from politicians and the public, recommending that members of his party in the House of Representatives vote in favor of the bill.
Its passage could also persuade the Senate to consider the legislation. A small group of bipartisan lawmakers filed a petition in July to release the files — an attempt to bypass House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican who normally controls which bills go to the floor. At first, it seemed like a hopeless endeavor.
However, it is unclear whether the documents will actually be released – they still require Senate approval and the signature of US President Donald Trump.
