US President Donald Trump spoke today about his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

He said he considers it "very respectful" that the Russian president is meeting with him on American soil and thinks the pair will have "constructive conversations" on Friday.

But his comments on a "possible land swap" with Ukraine may not please President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has insisted that his country will not give up any land as part of a peace deal.

Trump said there will be "some land swaps" and "some land changes" as part of a deal. He knows this "through Russia and through conversations with everyone," Trump said.

This "land swap" will be "for the benefit of Ukraine", he says. "Good things, not bad things."

Asked if Zelensky was invited to Friday's meeting, Trump said the Ukrainian president "was not part of the meeting" but that he "could go" if he wanted to.

Trump also said he hopes to schedule an upcoming meeting between Zelensky and Putin and offers to join the duo "if they need to".

If Putin proposes a "fair deal" during Friday's talks, Trump said he would forward it to European leaders, including (as his first phone call) to Zelensky.

"Maybe in the first two minutes I will know exactly whether or not an agreement can be reached," he added. A journalist asks him how he will know.

"Because that's what I do, I make a deal," he said.
