Donald Trump on Thursday withdrew an invitation for Canada to join the Peace Council, which aims to resolve global conflicts.

“Please let this letter serve to represent the fact that the Peace Board is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s membership in what will be the most prestigious Leaders’ Board ever convened, at any time,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social addressed to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Trump unveiled his initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos, claiming it would be “one of the most prestigious bodies ever created in the history of the world.” The board, which Trump will chair, was initially described as a temporary body to oversee the governance and reconstruction of Gaza.

According to Trump, permanent members should help fund the board with a payment of $1 billion each.

While leaders of many liberal democracies refused to join Trump's new international organization, Carney had accepted in principle, although on Sunday he said his officials had not yet considered "all the details of the structure, how it would operate, how it would be financed, and so on."

"Canada wants the money to have maximum impact," Carney told reporters.

Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Tuesday that Canadians did not plan to pay the $1 billion that countries had been asked to give Trump for a permanent seat on the board, which was initially described as a temporary body to oversee the governance and reconstruction of Gaza.

In a live address to world leaders in Davos on Tuesday, Carney described what he called "a disruption" in the previous "rules-based" world order overseen by the United States, caused by Trump's aggressive behavior.

When he arrived in Davos, Trump made it clear that he was aware of Carney's viral speech. "Canada lives because of the United States," Trump said in his speech on Wednesday. "Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements."

“Canada does not thrive because of the United States,” Carney countered Thursday. “Canada thrives because we are Canadian.”

“Once this board is fully formed, we can do pretty much anything we want,” Trump said in Switzerland on Thursday. “And we will do that in cooperation with the United Nations.”

The creation of the board was approved by a UN Security Council resolution as part of Trump's peace plan for Gaza, and UN spokesman Rolando Gomez said on Thursday that the UN's engagement with the board would be only in that context.

The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Pakistan, Turkey, Hungary, Morocco, Kosovo, Armenia, Argentina and Paraguay have accepted Trump's invitation. So have the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan, and the Southeast Asian countries of Indonesia and Vietnam.

Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu is also part of it, although he is angry about the inclusion of Turkish and Qatari officials on the executive board for Gaza and faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.

Albania has also confirmed that it has accepted the invitation, although Prime Minister Rama was not present in Davos to sign the document on Thursday. He was in Vlora welcoming the US President's daughter, Ivanka Trump.

During the ratification in the Assembly, the SP and the DP joined hands for Albania's accession to the Gaza Reconstruction Board.

Other US allies, such as Britain, France and Italy, have signaled that they will not join for the time being.
