Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico told European Union leaders last week that he was concerned and shocked by the psychological state of US President Donald Trump during a face-to-face meeting at Trump's Mar-a-Lago, Florida, residence on January 17, according to several anonymous European diplomats cited by Politico.

Fico, known as one of the most pro-Trump leaders in the EU, reportedly used the word "dangerous" to describe the president's behavior during his private meeting.

Fico's concern about Trump's condition was expressed in an informal conversation with his European counterparts on January 22 in Brussels, on the sidelines of an emergency European Union summit on transatlantic relations, which had been strained following several statements and actions by the American president.

This comment is particularly significant, as Fico has often publicly supported Trump's positions and his approach to Europe and international affairs.

However, Robert Fico himself has strongly denied this version of events. He wrote on the social network X that the news is "untrue" and fabricated, emphasizing that no one heard or saw anything like that at the informal meeting and that he did not speak in that way about his meeting with Trump.

Fico said that he shares many common political ideas with the US president, even though he disagrees on some points, and that he was surprised that his trip was not canceled despite his criticism of Venezuela, which according to him makes the meeting with Trump even more valuable for him.

For her part, the White House Spokesperson said the reports are false, adding that the meeting at Mar-a-Lago was positive and productive. / Corriere della Sera
