President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration on January 20, 2025, according to sources cited by CBS News.

The invitation was made shortly after the presidential election victory in November, but has not yet received an official response from the Chinese leader or the Chinese embassy in Washington.

Last week, the president-elect told NBC News that he had had very good communication with the Chinese president, without providing details about the conversation between them.

CBS News said officials are making plans for more foreign dignitaries to attend the swearing-in ceremony on January 20.

“World leaders will be present to meet with President Trump because they know he will soon return to power and restore peace through American power around the globe,” said Trump transition spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.

But in a reaction, the Kremlin announced that it had not received an invitation to attend the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.

The report of the invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping came days after Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Chinese goods. The US also set a Jan. 19 deadline, the day before the presidential inauguration, for ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, to sell the social media app or face a massive ban in the country.

This decision is consistent with Trump's broader policy of addressing national security concerns and implementing stricter trade measures. The upcoming inauguration on January 20 is expected to attract considerable international attention.
