Just when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington, D.C., to meet President Donald Trump at the White House, Russia launched a drone strike killing 7 civilians.

Seven people, including a toddler and a 16-year-old, were killed by a Russian drone strike in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, according to local authorities.

Ukrainian officials took the attacks as a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin that he has no intention of ending the war.

"That is why Putin does not want to stop the fire," Andriy Yermak, Zelensky's chief of staff, wrote on Telegram. "He enjoys bombing peaceful cities while talking about his desire to end the war."

Video footage of the aftermath released by local authorities shows a residential building where the upper floors collapsed.

A partially blurry photo released by Ukraine's emergency services appears to show a firefighter holding the body of a child.

Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv, wrote in the Telegraph that he believed the attack on the civilian building was "deliberate".

"Five enemy 'Shahedas' approached it from different directions and targeted people who were sleeping peacefully at five in the morning," he said, referring to armed drones.
