Former President Donald Trump has been immediately placed under Secret Service protection after his agents opened fire on a man who was seen with a gun while the former president was playing golf on his Florida courses.

New York Post sources said the Secret Service spotted a suspicious individual at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach and opened fire when agents saw what appeared to be the barrel of a gun.

According to CNN, authorities believe the person fired at Trump; the security team identified the direction from which the shots were coming and opened fire. At this point, the person fled, but was caught after several kilometers.

Always according to CNN, authorities found a bag, a Kalashnikov and a Go-Pro camera on the golf course.

According to authorities, cameras may have been used by the shooter to record the action.

"President Trump is safe after gunfire near him. No further details are available at this time," Republican candidate spokesman Steven Cheung said Sunday afternoon.

The incident comes almost exactly two months after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, wounding him in the ear. Sen. Lindsey Graham went on "X" minutes after news of the shooting broke, praising the former president for his courage.

"I just spoke with President Trump. He is one of the strongest people I have ever known. He is in a good mood and is more determined than ever to save our country," he wrote.

The Secret Service, which was widely criticized after the July assassination, wrote in X that it was investigating a "protective incident" involving the former president. The agency said it was coordinating with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office on the investigation. In the first reports, it was said that two people shot at each other. However, authorities said investigators now believe the Secret Service agent was the only shooter.
