U.S. and Russia propose invasion of Ukraine on the model of the West Bank of

According to The Times, the US and Russia are ready to suggest a West Bank-style invasion of Ukraine as a way to end the war.

According to the proposed plans, Russia will have economic and military control over the occupied parts of Ukraine, using its governing body, mimicking Israel's control over Palestinian territory taken by Jordan during the 1967 conflict.

The suggestion was made during discussions between President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his Russian counterparts, a source with knowledge of the US National Security Council told the newspaper.

Witkoff, who also serves as the White House's envoy for the Middle East, reportedly supports the suggestion, which the U.S. thinks resolves the issue of the Ukrainian constitution prohibiting giving up territory without holding a referendum.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected any idea of ceding territory, the new invasion proposal could lead to a ceasefire following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.

According to the proposal, Ukraine's borders will remain officially unchanged, similar to those of the West Bank, even though Israel controls the territory.

"It will be like Israel invading the West Bank," the source told The Times.

Trump will meet with Putin at a summit in Alaska on Friday. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt called the meeting a "listening exercise" on Tuesday.

"With a governor, with an economic situation that goes to Russia, not to Ukraine. But it will still be Ukraine, because ... Ukraine will never give up its sovereignty. But the reality is that it will be occupied territory and the model is Palestine," the source added to the newspaper.
