The Kremlin has said that Vladimir Putin is ready to discuss the Ukraine issue with Donald Trump, but stresses that this does not mean he is ready to change his demands for war.
Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said there was still no scheduled phone call between the two leaders, but stressed that Putin has made it clear he remains open to dialogue with Washington.
Peskov stressed that Putin's demands for Ukraine have not changed and that they are related to Russia's national security and the protection of the Russian population living in the disputed regions. He rejected the idea that this could mean a change in the goals of the Russian "special military operation".
We recall that Putin had earlier set the conditions for a chance for peace, demanding that Ukraine give up its ambitions to join NATO and withdraw its troops from four regions occupied by Russia.
But this proposal was immediately rejected by Kiev and its allies the moment it was proposed.
